S. Korea says all crew unharmed, cause undetermined after ship explosion in Strait of Hormuz

SEOUL, May 5 (Xinhua) -- All 24 crew members aboard a South Korean-operated cargo ship that suffered an explosion and fire inside the Strait of Hormuz have been confirmed unharmed, South Korea's foreign ministry said Tuesday.

The fire aboard the HMM NAMU has been fully extinguished, with no additional damage reported, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said it remained uncertain whether the vessel could resume normal operations, adding that it would be towed to a nearby port for damage checks and repairs.

The exact cause of the incident is expected to be determined after the vessel is towed and its damage is inspected, the ministry said.
