SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's special counsel said Wednesday that it will appeal a court ruling that acquitted Kim Keon-hee, wife of the impeached former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, of several charges.
In a statement, the special counsel said the court's reasoning for acquittals on charges including violations of the Capital Markets Act and the Political Funds Act, as well as some counts related to the influence-peddling charge, was "hard to accept," adding that the sentence for the guilty part was also "insufficient" and would be challenged on appeal.
Kim was sentenced to 20 months in prison for taking bribes, along with a forfeiture of 12.81 million won (about 9,010 U.S. dollars).
