S. Korea's imported car sale falls in January

SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sale fell in single digits last month due to less business days, caused by the Lunar New Year's holiday, industry data showed on Friday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here was 16,222 in January, down 6.6 percent from a year earlier, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 6,089 units last month.

Another German carmaker Mercedes-Benz came next with the local sale of 2,900 units, followed by Audi with 2,454 units, Volvo with 1,007 units and Porsche with 726 units respectively.

The number of European models sold here was 14,328 in January, accounting for 88.3 percent of the total. U.S. and Japanese brands recorded the market shares of 6.1 percent and 5.6 percent each.
