COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's Health Ministry on Friday said the country had detected its first patient infected with the Omicron variant of the COVID-19.
The Health Promotion Bureau of the Health Ministry said that a man who had recently returned from Nigeria had tested positive for the Omicron variant and was presently at a quarantine center. (Sri Lanka-Omicron)

SEOUL -- South Korea's parliament on Friday passed a record-high budget bill for 2022, amounting to 607.7 trillion won (514 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia and the Philippines have pledged to broaden their cooperation in various fields during the post-COVID-19 era for mutual benefits, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

SEOUL -- All 22 Chinese crew members were rescued on Friday from their fishing boat sinking in waters off southern South Korea after it collided with rocks, the Consulate General of China in Gwangju confirmed.
The Chinese vessel with 22 crew members hit rocks at about 11:00 a.m. local time (0200 GMT) in waters off Yeosu city, South Jeolla province, according to the consulate general. (South Korea-China-Fishing Boat)
