UNITED NATIONS -- UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said Wednesday that the Syrian Constitutional Committee should continue its work with urgency and purpose.

SYDNEY -- The Australian state of Victoria recorded its deadliest day since COVID-19 pandemic outbreak on Thursday with 25 deaths reported.

The state also reported 1,923 new local infections on the day. Some 746 infected Victorians are in hospital, including 137 patients in ICU and 85 people on ventilator. (Australia-COVID-19)

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported another 6,148 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Wednesday, bringing the national total to 2,448,372, according to the health ministry.

SEOUL -- Revenue of Samsung Electronics, South Korea's tech behemoth, hit a record high in the third quarter thanks to strong chip demand, the company said Thursday.
