MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday 6,784 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,131,467.

The death toll climbed to 18,958 after 137 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. (Philippines-COVID-19)

SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Friday appointed a new prime minister and four other ministers after a cabinet reshuffle last month for the final year of his five-year presidency.

Moon conferred the certificate of appointment on Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, a former four-term lawmaker who served as the interior minister in the first cabinet of the Moon government, according to the presidential Blue House. (South Korea-New prime minister)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on Friday that 2 million people in the Southeast Asian nation have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 so far.

Tith Chenda, a 23-year-old garment factory worker, was the 2,000,000th person to be vaccinated, he wrote on his official Facebook page, adding that he awarded her 10 million riels (2,500 U.S. dollars) for being the 2,000,000th vaccine recipient. (Cambodia-COVID-19-Vaccination)

JAKARTA --- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 rocked Indonesia's western province of North Sumatra on Friday, but did not potentially trigger a tsunami, the meteorology and geophysics agency said here.

Earlier the agency released the quake at a magnitude of 7.2 before revising it, Ali Imran, an official in charge at the agency, told Xinhua via phone. (Indonesia-Earthquake)
