BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- The Brazilian government reported on Friday that the country has recorded more than 140,000 deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) after registering 729 more deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 140,537.

According to the Ministry of Health, 31,911 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 4,689,613.

BOGOTA -- Colombia's death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 25,000 Friday as the country reported 7,494 new cases and 179 more deaths.

The total number of infections hit 798,317, with 25,103 deaths, according to the country's heath authorities.

MALE -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has crossed 10,000, local media reported here Saturday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Friday evening confirmed 75 new cases of COVID-19, including 53 locals and 22 foreigners, raising the country's total case count up to 10,014.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 61 more cases of the COVID-19 as of 0:00 a.m. Saturday local time compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 23,516.

The daily caseload fell below 100 in four days, but the double-digit increase continued owing to cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province.

NEW DELHI -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India Saturday morning rose to 5,903,932, India's federal health ministry said.

During the past 24 hours, 85,362 new cases were reported from across the country. Besides this, 1,089 deaths were also recorded.
