Rocket fire from Gaza causes Israeli retaliation
Seoul News.Net Sunday 22nd November, 2009
Several Palestinians were injured in Israeli airstrikes against targets in the Gaza Strip over the weekend.
Israel's military said aircraft carried out the attacks essentially to destroy two weapons-making factories and a smuggling tunnel which had been used for transporting rocket parts.
The strikes, in retaliation for a rocket fired into southern Israel from the Hamas-controlled area, came a day after Hamas and other Gaza-based militants said they were going to stop firing rockets.
The ceasefire had been called by Hamas to prevent retaliatory attacks by Israel and build stability.
But a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip on Saturday which landed near the southern Israeli city of Sderot.
Hamas has observed a ceasefire for months, but other groups have fires rockets across the border.
