Rebel hostage in serious medical condition

Seoul News.Net
Monday 31st March, 2008

A Colombian news service has revealed that the French-Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt is very ill.

Ms Betancourt, who has been held captive by left-wing FARC rebels for six years, is supposedly in need of a blood transfusion.

Colombia has reportedly offered to free hundreds of FARC rebels in exchange for Ms Betancourt and other hostages.

However Bogota is refusing to meet some rebel demands.

It has been much harder for the Colombian government to deal with FARC rebels recently because its troops killed the rebels main negotiator in a raid on a FARC base in Ecuador on the 1st March.
